They were once hit manga series turned to anime, to dramas, till they go for the big screen. There’s no stopping to the Asian culture dominating the world through their shows especially their story line-up.

Since they became hit cartoon series, public records search shows Anime began touching that more mature side giving something tangible both for the young and the adults. Even dramas have been tackled in animation with those big eyes from Japanese animators that gives more emotions compared to those done by western animators (except for Walt Disney that seem to adapt this in their animated films). However this manga/anime is getting more pumped up as viewers began to demand more than just moving drawings.

Enter the film and the real thing—skin flesh, most actors and actresses seem to go for that inkling sensation to reach stardom by portraying that hit character in an animated show. At present there have been many Japanese shows that people find to be focused in this concept starting with the hit series GTO and Gokusen. Last July came a smashing hit that also captured kids and the kid at heart with the action pack thriller Blood the Last Vampire.

Japanese ideals to visuals and fight scenes are really rolling that even Dragon Ball got the chance to be shown in the big screens. But the most awaited is still to hit this summer of 2010. The Last Airbender the story of the Avatar Aang. The fight against the fire nation is on and there’s no stopping this film from being watched.

Loving the Avatar: The Last Airbender may get the people who love this totally excited. However it’s not just the story that people may have to look forward to. It’s a star studded cast as the characters will be played by known young stars starting off with Jackson Rathbone of Twilight (he was Jasper), Dev Petel of Slumdog Millionaire, and Nicola Peltz of Deck the Halls. The role of Aang will be more realistic when it comes to martial arts action as Noah Ringer, a Texan 12 year old Taekwondo champion will be playing the role.  This is a sure fun filled action packed film that the family (especially the kids) will enjoy. The Avatar is a must see movie for the whole family.

Manga has truly evolved our way of viewing. This is definitely given more color to the shows we once enjoyed.

Resident Evil

The original “Resident Evil” game released in 1996 for the PLaystation and Saturn consoles is a landmark in gaming and survival horror, mixing in puzzles with action terror. I remember as a kid how frightening that live action opening scene was where your team has to outrun and take shelter in an abandoned looking mansion after being chased by zombie dogs and humans in the pitch black night. Again, you play as James Sunderland who arrives in the city of Silent Hill after receiving a mysterious letter from his wife who died years ago. As he investigates the town he founds a numer of strange beings an monsters, one of them being the now notorious “Pyramid Head” monster which is a grotesque incarnation of Sunderland’s own guilt and subconscious mind. The further Sunderland searches the deeper he gets into the mysteries of the town and his own mind. The game was a success for the franchise and led to, as of today, five more releases in the “Silent Hill” world and even a movie starring Radha Mitchell.

Doom 3

System Shock 2

Before their was “BioShock,” the successful game for the Xbox 360 console, there was “System Shock 2”, an action role playing science fiction game developed for PCs and featuring some of the scariest science fiction gaming ever seen. You play as a soldier on a ship that is responding to a distress signal on a far away planet. The rescue team brings strange eggs aboard which then infect the team and the infestation grows. You find yourself awake in a cryo-tube on the ship and must try to find your way out and stop the infestation. With a story that is reported to have been loosely based on the novella “The Heart of Darkness” and artwork that evokes the terror of deep space alien infestation, “System Shock 2” was a highly influential first person shooter in the horror genre and is still considered well ahead of its time by critics and fans.

Fatal Frame

This ghost story released for the Playstation 2 and Xbox consoles started what is now a successful franchise with a number of sequels and even a planned film. “Fatal Frame” is a unique game in that you play as a character with no weapons, but instead use an antique camera to damage and capture spirits. You have a number of shots on the camera, which makes it act like a sort of weapon in a way with limited ammunition, but it is always fresh to see a game that doesn’t involve guns. As you search through the world with your trusted camera you attempt to find out what happened to your older brother who has gone missing. You search, of course, a haunted mansion to uncover the secrets. It turns out that the story is loosely based around legends in the Humuro Mansion in Japan and the gruesome deaths reported to have happened there.

Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem

There have been lots of games based on H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos but none as successfully and terrifyingly as “Eternal Darkness.” Highlighted by its unique, patented “Sanity Meter,” “Eternal Darkness” really messed with your mind, for whenever your character came face to face with unspeakable evil, your sanity level would drop, and when it dropped far enough, strange things would start to happen, the walls would start dripping blood, your screen would mysteriously go blank, or you would hear the sound of footsteps and voices which were not there. The game had one of the most complex storylines in recent memory, with an elaborate backstory of Gods and humans who throughout time have kept the Gods at bay. You must take control of different figures throughout time as they fight the elder Gods and the great, slumbering Mantorok.

The game was one of the first full motion video based puzzle games, which used live action video clips as the core of its gameplay. Who could imagine that in a population of three and a half thousand million inhabitants, the work of L.S.Lowry would become instantly recognisable throughout the world.

At the age of 88 years, Lowry died after falling ill to pneumonia. He passed into history like the scenes he portrayed.

If he was a genius, it appeared to have brought him little joy and less comfort.

He was a tall pear-shaped man, living alone, withdrawn, without ostentation, and for years he had tended to complain about his lack of privacy.

He had many callers. Yawning to signify that he had become fatigued by the present situation. A Lowry yawn could be prodigious and it was an unmistakable signal: it meant he was ready to return to his solitude.

Just before his birthday in November, he emerged from his front door, his feet scuffed in deep whirpools of autumn leaves that had gathered in his drive.

He was in no good mood for birthdays. “Talk about it?” he said. “What is there to say? I’m 88, not 68 you know, and people are still coming, people, people…”

His old house stone built and detatched, is at Mottram in Longdendale, near Stalybridge, Cheshire. When driving from Manchester to Barnsley, the town is almost unoticeable. Lowry lived modestly, even frugally, in spite of his success. There is no garden at the front to speak of; the lower windows were shielded by straggling privet…

He often wore a clerical grey suit not in the most pristine condition… Being given an advert for one of his signed limited editions; “250 beautiful prints of ‘On the sands’ from a guaranteed limited issue of 500. A print signed by the artist L.S.Lowry is a good investment a shows a healthy increase over time…”

Lowry was middle-aged before he achieved any real success. Which is why he complained. “People should have come before, that’s when they should have come. They never came to see me then.” He was an only child born in Manchester 1887, his father was an estate agent and his mother a talented musician. They were comfortably off.

Lowry’s teacher at Manchester regional college of art painted the industrial scene and showed him reproductions of the work of the impressionists The two influences were to shape Lowry’s work. Drawn to the images of mills and factory workers around him.
