Malas and Jeweleries as Yoga Accessories

Author: Karan Khalsa

The ancient Vedic Hindu philosophy, Yoga has been derived from the Sanskrit word ‘yuj’ which means ‘to reunite’. Yoga is the philosophy of reuniting one’s ownself with the Supreme divine self. This reunion of the atma with the paramatma is not a very easy process rather it is quite a tough task to establish this bond. But from thousands of years ago, this ancient art is proving its potentiality to make a balance between human mind, body and soul – thus help an individual to create the bond with the Omnipotent power. Yoga and its various forms like Hatha yoga, Kundalini yoga, Ashtanga yoga, Kriya yoga and many more have the magical power to transform a human being into a higher level of spiritualism. And if it is practiced with yoga music probably one can expect the best result.

Music has the magical power of soothing and relaxing the mind or brain with its melodious tunes. Some kind of devotional music like meditation music or yoga music increases the level of concentration and thus help people to awaken the self-consciousness. Various yoga DVDs available at Spirit Voyage promise to fulfill the demands of the global yoga practitioners, beginners or aspirants. A huge collection of online yoga music CDs and DVDs are offered by Spirit Voyage.

This online music company also offers Yoga DVDs and CDs for each and every kind of yoga forms – like Hatha yoga, Kundalini yoga, Kriya yoga or Ashtanga yoga. The world famous spiritual singers like Deva Premal, Snatam Kaur, Wah!, Donna De Lory and Gurmukh have lent their pure soulful voices in these albums adding a devotional touch to them. One can check out the latest releases like Tantric Wahe Guru by Snatam Kaur, Live in Love by Shantala and Circle of Fire by Benjy Wertheimer etc. and experience the healing power of devotional music.

Yoga accessories are also a great help for the practitioners. Yoga accessories help to relax the body and feel more comfortable while doing difficult yoga poses or asanas. Some accessories even help to develop a better level of concentration. There are few yoga accessories without which your yoga practice will remain incomplete such as yoga mat, yoga clothings etc. Like these items, yoga jeweleries and malas are also inevitable for practicing yoga. Jeweleries like sacred mantra engraved karas, lotus ring help to uplift the spiritual senses within and thus make it easy to establish that divine bond. The yoga jewelery sets of earrings and pendants are very much helpful in doing meditation. And if it is paired with meditation music then one can expect perhaps the best result.

Malas are considered as the most important accessories in meditation. We cannot imagine meditating without a sacred 108 Rudraksha mala. The sacred string of 108 beads helps one to focus and concentrate in the meditation practice. The power beads are the most significant spiritual tool to count the prayers or mantras. This helpful device enhances the spiritual mood of the practitioner. A wide range of malas are available at Spirit Voyage like Amethyst mala, Rudraksha mala, Lapis Lazuli mala etc. which will surely heighten the meditative state of the individual. Spirit Voyage aims to help the yoga aspirants in learning and practicing yoga all by themselves. Various Yoga DVDs like Lifecycles and Lifestyles by Yogi Bhajan and Advanced yoga by Rodney Yee are offered at this website which are also a very good option for the yoga lovers to learn and practice yoga at home.

Psychological and Physical Benefits of Yoga

Author: Kasan Groupe

The benefits of doing Yoga are three-fold. Not only do you get a leaner, more toned figure, and increased flexibility, but yoga also helps with the heart and the mind. Some may not realize it but it’s a common myth that’s true, mind and body go hand in hand. For those of you who want to get back on your Patio Dining Set, and live a more healthy, more relaxed life, yoga is just the thing for you. This is one of the best ways to get rid of all that unwanted stress in your body.

The practice of yoga can be carried out through hundreds of different exercises. One common technique is called Anuloma Viloma. This is when a person breathes through one nostril, calming the mind and the nervous system. Alternating between both nostrils ultimately helps one side of the brain make connections with the other, thus allowing neurons to freely move about. Though exercises such as this, one can begin to think more freely. There is a positive balance between the creative and logical side of one’s brain. This allows us to confront our anxiety head on and think about more peaceful things. It’s a very simple trick to diverting our stress.

By means of stabilizing one’s nervous system, yoga positively acts as stress management. By doing these types of exercises, we allow our bodys to reach a more reasonable sense of control. Overall, this can definitely give someone a better optimism and appreciation for the things around them. A heightened awareness level reduces any kind of anger or instability and usually one shows signs of being more sociable. Basically, doing yoga can help someone reach a more positive outlook on life.

As you can see, yoga not only gives us better flexibility, increased stamina, toned muscles, and a stable heart rate, but the practice of yoga can also transform us mentally.

Yoga to Tone your Abs

Tuesday, 19. January 2010

Author: Nico Webb

Using specific yoga exercises to get solid abs

Is it possible to get the famous so-called 6 pack abs from yoga? Even if the key objectives of yoga are not aesthetics, yoga can be very effective for firming your stomach muscles and trimming unwanted fat.

Most people today, male or female, appreciate firm abs and today I want to show you three very effective yoga asanas for firming and toning your abdominal muscles and lower back.

The three asanas that we are looking at today, as mentioned work your entire mid-section, lower back, buttocks, the intercostals region as well as internal organs and aside from working your stomach muscles the poses provide many health benefits. Please remember that yoga is completely different from regular gym routines; with yoga we are not interested in endless repetitions of the same exercise and sweating under a heavy, relentless workload. No, we are looking for perfect execution of the pose and holding the pose for a determined amount of time. For reaching the objectives of this article, I would like to suggest that you do each exercise from the list 5 times and consider this as one set, to use the familiar gym terminology, if you have trouble performing the reverse boat posture you can try holding your thighs and do the pose just two or three times only, you may also use a yoga strap.

Please do not sacrifice form just to complete the movement. With practice you can build up your routine – not with individual reps but by holding the pose longer.

Yoga Workouts for Toned Firm Abs

The three basic poses we focus on are the following:

  • Marjariasana – The Cat Pose
  • Supta Udarakarshanasana – The Lying Abdominal Stretch Pose
  • Reverse Naukasana – The Boat Pose

For complete instruction on how to perform the exercises in order to obtain the desired results, please visit our website (follow the link below) where you will find the entire version of this article as well as illustrative photographs which will greatly help you go through the poses using a correct style.

The Benefits of your Yoga for Abs workout

You will probably not get the famous 6-pack abs mid-section from yoga, however you will certainly firm and strengthen your entire abdominal region as well as your lower back. If you add a low-impact cardiovascular exercise to the mentioned yoga routine, such as walking or swimming, you will melt unwanted body fat covering your abdominal region and sides even more rapidly. Not only will you feel tighter and stronger you will also appreciate the following benefits:

Benefits of the Cat Pose

increases mobility of vertebrae and releases tension in the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine strengthens and tones the arms and abdominal muscles stretches back muscles and abdominal muscles as well as the neck increases circulation of spinal fluid and massages digestive organs teaches correct pelvic movements for forward bends and back bends. It also gives your digestive organs a gentle massage.

Benefits of the Lying Abdominal Twist Pose

The spinal nerves will become toned and you will feel emotionally strengthened. Physically your abdominals will become firmer and the metabolism is tweaked, due to the massaging pressure on abdomen, aiding weight loss and trimming of the waist and hips. This pose also will aid in helping in aligning posture. It helps regularize bowel movements and prepares the body for the day ahead.

Benefits of the Reverse Boat Pose

The benefits of doing this exercise are many. As your abdominal section is under pressure, your liver and pancreas can function better. This can lead to increased secretion of bile from the liver and insulin from the pancreas, thus improving your digestion. It could also help to regulate your blood sugar levels. In addition, the muscles of your legs, especially the calf and thigh muscles, and the muscles around your shoulders and neck get toned. Above all your tummy fat is reduced. Although you cannot build six pack abs with this exercise itself, doing it regularly can prepare you for heavier exercises that can make it possible for you to achieve six packs.

There, quite a lot to read and assimilate, but I hope the instructions together with my going through the asanas with you in the photos help you fully understand the yoga poses for toning the abs. Good luck and stick with it – the benefits are far too many to give up!

Haitis Health From Bad To Worse

Tuesday, 19. January 2010

Author: Jeanne Azorsky

Haiti is in agony; the earthquake has destroyed its buildings, homes, lives. But with regard to health care, there wasn’t much to destroy in the first place. Even before the quake hit the capital, leaving its hospitals “abandoned or destroyed” the country’s medical infrastructure was in shambles.

Three fourths of the population had no access to any kind of health care as of 2008, according to the International Crisis Group. There are no emergency wards to speak of in the country, and only one doctor for every 3,000 citizens, compared with seven docs per 3,000 people in the U.S.

Private hospitals charge fees that put decent medical care out of reach for everyone but the Haitian elite, and public clinics, according to an April report from Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières, or MSF), “are often plagued by management problems, strikes, and shortages of staff, drug, and medical supplies.”

It’s no surprise, then, that despite Haiti’s recent strides toward a more stable society, the country had what MSF’s operation director called in April an “immediate public health crisis” long before the quake.

The earthquake has added traumatic injuries and their aftereffects to Haiti’s litany of woes. Irwin Redlener, director for the National Center for Disaster Preparedness, says the most immediate concerns will be severe head and chest injuries, but that doctors will also have to carefully manage all wounds, even small ones, to avoid infection and septic shock, a challenging task in hastily constructed tent clinics that may be running short on antiseptics.

Any survivors pulled from the rubble in the next 24 hours are likely to be weaker than those rescued yesterday; they will be dehydrated, especially with temperatures in Port-au-Prince topping 90 degrees. If victims are also suffering from “crush injuries” after being struck or trapped under falling debris, they will be at risk of kidney failure—damaged muscles release proteins that are toxic to the organs—and in need of extra hydration to prevent it.

But sterile saline may be hard to come by in a country where most people don’t have access to clean drinking water under normal conditions.Newsweek

Practice yoga at home with Spirit Voyage Yoga Books and DVDs

Author: Karan Khalsa

Yoga, the thousands year old science and art of harmonizing mind, body and soul, is day by day getting recognized by the whole world for its magical healing power. Nothing can match this power of yoga. Without any strict fitness regime, rigorous physical exercises and diet pills, yoga promises to keep a body fit as well as the mind healthy. Yoga is also the philosophy of reuniting with the divine soul by awakening the spiritual sense that lies within an individual. Various forms of yoga such as Hatha yoga, Raj yoga, Bhakti yoga or Kundalini yoga focus upon this main point of directing the mind towards God and experiencing the oneness with the divine Consciousness. Yoga DVDs and yoga books offered at Spirit Voyage can be the best possible help to practice this age old art at home.

Yoga is an ancient art. So, like other art forms, taking help of a teacher or trainer is the best way to learn yoga. In the Vedic period, gurus used to teach yoga to the disciples at the ashrams. But in this age of super-fast technology, finding a yoga guru who has in-depth knowledge on this subject is truly difficult and perhaps, next to impossible. Now, yoga gurus are replaced by yoga instructors or yoga teachers who train the aspirants to learn and practice perfect yoga poses. But finding a good yoga instructor and regularly attending yoga classes are also another tough task in our busy lifestyles. Yoga DVDs offered by this online music company are possibly the best option here. Ashtanga Yoga: The Primary Series by Richard Freeman, Flow Yoga for Beginners by Shiva Rea and Mind and Meditation by Yogi Bhajan are some of those latest releases which will guide the beginners as well as the practitioners to learn yoga properly. With the help of these DVDs one can even learn and practice the tough yoga forms like Ashtanga yoga or Kundalini yoga much more easily than ever.

Books are considered as the friend, philosopher cum guide in human being’s life. They are perhaps the most reliable source of knowledge. So, yoga books can be the best aid in learning yoga and enlightening the soul with details and vast information about it. Spirit Voyage brings up a huge collection of yoga books for everyone who aspires to learn yoga such as Kundalini Yoga Fan by Pritam Hari Kaur, Kripalu Yoga by Richard Faulds, and many more. For the kids or the aged people, attending yoga class regularly is a bit tough. Professionals also find it really hard to take time out for their daily yoga classes. But, it is a not a rule to join a yoga class to learn yoga. It can also be done right sitting at home. Rather it is probably the best way of practicing yoga as because unlike yoga classes you can do yoga poses in a quiet corner of your home. It ensures better level of concentration as well as lesser chance of mind-distraction. One can even play some soothing yoga music or meditation music to create the perfect ambiance with the calm and tranquil tunes. Incorporating spiritual music be it any instrumental one or any vocal song in yoga practicing led to a better result.

Apart from Yoga books and DVDs, it also has a vast range of Yoga music CDs and DVDs to offer. The soulful music paired with the heat-touching melodious voices of Snatam Kaur, Wah!, Donna De Lorry, Gurmukh, Deva Premal and other legendary singers enrich the collection and transform it into a higher realm of spirituality. This enchanting selection of soothing and relaxing meditation music will fill up the soul with divine tranquility and evoke the true dedication for the Supreme power.

Choosing A Baby Jogger Stroller

Tuesday, 19. January 2010

Author: Christoffer X Altesino

After giving birth, most likely you would want to engage into an exercise routine. However, the question is what to do with your baby while you are doing so? The most convenient and cheaper way is to utilize a wonderful product called Baby Jogger Stroller. All you need to do is strap the baby into the jogger. Not only you have bonding time with your baby but you will also burn more calories as you are pushing the Baby Jogger Stroller.

This product is intended for children whose age is between six months to five years old. This is so because the motion might be too jarring for little ones who can’t hold their head without help. If you want to exercise a younger infant then use a car seat. Just be sure that the baby is strap securely and the neck is well supported. There is quite a number of Baby Jogger Stroller available in the market today. Choosing one may not be an easy task. When buying one, it is best to try it out first. You can ask the seller to run it around the aisle or parking lot. This would help a lot in your selection.

If you are browsing, seek the top of the line stroller that is stable. It shouldn’t tip even if you are making sharp turns. There are other key elements to consider such as locking brake, harness, swivel wheel, handle bars with grip, and waist strap. If you are shopping look for brands like Dreamer Design Rebound Lite, Mountain Buggy Urban stroller and Phil & Ted’s Sport Buggy. When you are using the Baby Jogger Stroller, stick to the parks and areas where cars aren’t allowed. If you are planning to use it in a well traffic route, always follow rules of the road just like the ones applied to the car. Run with the traffic on the right side. Position yourself where you are visible to the cars.

Before heading out the dog, there are few things to remember. One is to never take your hands off the stroller. This equipment is designed to roll with little resistance so it can easily get away from you. When using it during summer, put sunscreen to block the sun. If the weather is cold and damp, always use extra clothes. Always be vigilant. Although the jogger stroller got advantages, it doesn’t come without the risk. Make the experience satisfying and safe.

Steps that can prevent you from being mechanical

Tuesday, 19. January 2010

Author: Nicholas Paine

I know, it may sound weird, but give it a thought, what if some you turn into a mythical stone creature sitting in front of the computer. This may happen because today most of us place ourselves in front of the computer and staring at the screen either for eight hours r even more. This damages our muscle by making it inactive, because it does not experience activity, and the tiny movements that happen over and over are of not much use.

When you’re extremely busy it is obvious that you will have no time for exercise in your day today curriculum. At times you realize the importance of movement only when it is too late: when your limbs have already turned to a stone or the management has to mount you on the parapet next to the gargoyles.

The good news is that there are some basic movements based on yoga exercises and a simple self massage tool that can keep your circulation up and the threat of becoming a statue down.

People who are associated with computers definitely will have a direct link with the mouse as well, and if you hold them for a very long time you will definitely need some sort of maintenance for your wrists and hands. If you think that you can neglect it then I must warn you against it, doing so can subject you to Repetitive Strain Injury and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome that has become very common in the recent times. It can also lead you to the use of a brace, a prescription for muscle relaxers, and in some cases, surgery as well.

To maintain good circulation and flexibility in your wrists and hands there are two very important yoga exercises that are my favorite too. The movements are very simple and you can practice them just few times a week.

(NOTE: you will find a general overview of these yoga exercises below, but PLEASE check out the FREE “Quickfix” video for instruction from someone who really knows what she’s doing.)

For Improved Circulation

1. Stick both arms straight out the sides with your hands wide open and palms facing down.

2. Make a tight fist with all five fingers.

3. Quickly open your hands as wide as you can.

4. Quickly make a tight fist.

5. Repeat this process, increasing the speed with every repetition.

6. Release and slowly lower your hands to your sides.

You can feel the blood flowing now, can’t you?  Do this a few times a week or whenever you feel like you need to get some blood pumping through those tired wrists.

For Better Flexibility

1. Stick both arms straight out to the sides.

2. With your palms pointed down, press all four fingers tightly against your thumb.  Your hands should look like they’re holding something that you don’t want near your body.

3. Hold your hand position and rotate one wrist up and back as far is it will go while your other wrist goes down and back.

4. Now turn the upward facing wrist down and back and turn the other up back.

5. Repeat this process, alternating wrist position.

6. Release and slowly lower your hands to your sides.

With practice, you will find that these simple yoga exercises will give a little boost to circulation and flexibility.  They not only make you instantly feel a little better, but in the long run they can play a small role in preventing long-term injuries.

You can also use a self massage tool for beating the injuries associated with the desk work that involves the least movements. Self massage tool will not only be beneficial for the circulation and loosen muscles but it will also help you to reduce your stress and enables you to concentrate on your work.

I would like to present a great example of a simple self massage tool that is a good ol’ fashioned tennis ball. Listed below are some ways to use a tennis ball to reduce the stress associated with sitting for long hours.

Easy Self Massage for Desk Jockeys

1. Take your tennis ball and pin it between your back and the back of your chair (I usually start with the ball in a position against one side of my spine in my lower back).

2. Lean back into the tennis ball, but not so hard that it is at all uncomfortable.

3. Take ten, slow, deep, deliberate breaths.

4. Move the tennis ball to the next position on your back and repeat.

If you already have a back pain then the above mentioned exercises are not for you. If you have a constant pain then you need a doctor and not a tennis ball. Just note the point that while using the self massage tool you should not over do it, pressurize yourself beyond your limits is a strict no. It is meant to make you feel good.

These are some simple things that you could do so that you are prevented from being an automaton. A regular practice ensures you a better physical health and also improves your mental strength by enabling you to be focused on your work and the overwhelming feeling of wellbeing.

Remember to do the obvious in addition to these little yoga exercises.  Stand up and walk around from time to time.  Get a little fresh air.  Walk to lunch.  You might also want to keep track of how often you take a chance to get your blood flowing again.  It’s all too easy to stay stationary for longer than you realize.  And before you know it, you end up walking like person made of rock.

Types of Yoga – Beginners Guide to Yoga

Tuesday, 19. January 2010

Author: Satori Ebedes

So you want to start doing yoga, but you need help on getting started. Well, you have come to the right place to begin your journey. This article will give you a list of different styles to choose from. Although most yoga styles use the same basic positions, their fundamental attitudes and teachings can be different. At the end of this article series, you will be able to find the perfect one for you.

ANUSARA: Attitude, Alignment, and Action
Anusara yoga, developed in 1997 by John Friend, is a brand of Hatha yoga that focuses on harmony and joy. Anusara is based upon the Tantric philosophy and the "Universal Principles of Alignment" which sees goodness as having an intrinsic nature. You can remember Anusara by the three A’s: Attitude, Alignment, and Action. The main focus of Anusara yoga is positive attitude, alignment awareness of the body, and the flow action of energy. To be more specific it tunes you into what your body does while perform each pose.

ASHTANGA: The Power Yoga
Ashtanga yoga was first developed by K. Pattabhi Jois. This particular brand of yoga is an extreme style of yoga that focuses on performing its poses, flowing in certain order at a fast pace. When literally translated, Ashtanga means "eight limbs," The eight limbs stand for a path to cleansing made up of eight spiritual practices. Since it is practiced so fast it naturally requires a lot of endurance. Many of you may have heard of Ashtanga yoga because it is commonly known as "the power yoga."

BIRKRAM: The Hot Yoga
Birkram Yoga was developed by Bikram Choudhury and has gained the reputation of being "the hot yoga." Why is it called the hot yoga? Because the 26 poses are practiced in temperatures higher than 95 degrees! According to Bikram, practicing at high temperatures allows your muscles to loosen and also help you sweat- which is a key method of cleansing toxins from the body.

Relax with World Sacred Music

Tuesday, 19. January 2010

Author: Karan Khalsa

Derived from the Sanskrit word ‘yuj’, Yoga means to unite, to join or to attach. Yoga means the union of the soul with the God or the atma with the paramatma. This ancient mental and physical discipline trains an individual the consciousness for the highest state of spiritual intuitiveness and calmness by a gradual process of uplifting self-realization. By doing different yoga postures or asanas like Kundalini yoga or Hatha yoga poses, breathing exercises and meditation, the three prime yoga structures, the connection between human soul and the Supreme being can be established smoothly. Yoga relinquishes the control over one’s own mind and body. Here music or precisely Yoga music plays a pivotal role as incorporating music into yoga practice increases the level of concentration by relaxing the mind, body and soul.

Yoga is a process of uniting two opposite forces of the body like mind and body, universal and individual consciousness etc. Creating a harmony between an individual and the environment around and thus setting a balance between the two is the prime aim or goal of this 5000 year old ancient art, Yoga. Various Yoga DVDs available at Spirit Voyage help one to reach this higher level of spirituality with the out of the world sacred meditation music. Soothing music replenishes human mind and helps the individual to focus on a particular thought so that one can meditate and reflect without any such outside disturbances or distractions.
